| Winter in Colorado is a wonderful landscape of snow and sunshine. It is sad, but time to put our pond to sleep. The koi arent interested in coming up to say hi and find out what treats we will feed them. They are barely moving in the bottom of the pond. But what a fun learning year this has been for us. This is our second year with our pond and Im sure we have done just about everything wrong you could do.
Last autumn the planting area around the pond was completely bare. This spring our goal was to make this area a mountain stream with wild flowers, aspen and pine. We especially wanted to create a home for the birds and butterflies. Its a long-term project but what a difference a growing season makes! The finches, red wing black birds and humming birds love our little sanctuary and by the end of the summer, we could see butterflies by the stream every day.
Hope you enjoy some of our "pond under construction" pictures, call or e-mail us anytime if you would like to discuss starting a pond or just talking about your pond. We are waiting impatiently for spring, until then, check out some of our favorite pond & koi web sites. Koi Links |
